Chapter 21

Had it been only moments, or hours when she felt herself emerging from a dark cave? Looking around, she recognized the conference room, and remembered where she was. It was almost as if she were in a hollow void outside the world in which she knew.

Everything was stealthily quiet.

What was keeping Jerry?She thought as she looked down at her watch. He should have been back by now.

She rose from the couch and looked around the room for a message, but there was nothing. Although it was warm she felt the bite of an unnatural chill and rubbed her arms. For some reason a coldness had settled along her spine. Why was the room so dark? It was still daylight outside, but for some reason the light seemed to simply stop at the windows, plunging the room in some kind of eerie, supernatural darkness. Feeling a little frightened, she turned, grabbed her purse, and hurried toward the door to leave and try to find Jerry.

“Shayde.”
