Chapter 12

Joel said, “We’re looking for Landon. He’s not in trouble or anything, we just need to talk to him.”

“At this hour? He’s not home. Working an extra shift driving bus. You can get him via the dispatch system.”

Joel smiled politely. “Thank you, sir.”

After work at seven A.M., Joel texted his mom so he could drop by. It was necessary to warn her so she didn’t shoot at him when he entered. He taught her that, and once he forgot to tell her and she was on the phone with 911 and holding a revolver. Kuma went ballistic until he realized who it was. He knew he couldn’t sleep despite being tired. Kuma barked inside as he walked up the steps. He used his key to let himself in.

“Mom, it’s Joel, I’m here.”

She yelled, “Kuma, kill!”
