“It’s all right. You don’t have to explain yourself, least of all to your mother.”
When Ainsley wanted to say something for the second time, he was interrupted by the sound of someone struggling with the front door. It was indeed heavy and rather tricky for someone new. Ainsley hurried back to the entrance. Callum wouldn’t know where to go in this multi-chambered manor.
Gasping and panting, Callum finally managed to push the door closed, and he let out a waft of breath.
“Must be all this water making it so goddamn heavy,” he snarled. Then his eyes caught sight of the coffee cup in Ainsley’s hand before he slowly looked up. “Huh.”
Ainsley arched an eyebrow.
Callum nodded in the cup’s direction. “I didn’t know you could drink or eat surrounded by water like this.”
Ainsley gave a small smile. “This water is different from the kind in your world.”
“Yeah, I know it’s more viscous but—”
“It’s like…air for us. Come on. Let’s head to the kitchen.”
