Chapter 11

“Please have a seat anywhere you want.”

Ainsley realized Callum might be overwhelmed by the sheer size of the sitting room. The last time they were here, they went directly to the kitchen. The chairs in the sitting room were arranged sparsely, aside from a set next to the hearth. But even that was far from being cluttered.

Callum took the seat to the far left near a pair of lamps and Ainsley sat next to him. He drew a deep breath. All right. The moment of truth. After this, Callum wouldn’t want to even see his shadow.

“Yes, right, you are not from around here.” Ainsley felt Callum’s eyes bore into him, even while he didn’t dare lift his face. “You’re from a place named Fairfield. Your mom’s a human from there.”

“How did my father meet her?”

“Our worlds are not that far apart. We from Silkwater often walk across there by the rainbow.”

Callum choked. “By the rainbow?”
