I didn’t sleep a wink the night before. And when I woke up, still wondering where Tal was and why I hadn’t heard from him, I wanted a throat-clenching drink. That was the normal life of an alcoholic, but never did I seem to get used to such misery.

I showered, shaved, and dressed. Then I called Tal’s cellphone, but he still didn’t pick up. I left the voicemail: Been wondering where you are. Thinking about you. Give me a holler when you have a second.
