Chapter 26

Cain had removed the heating pad, allowing the fox’s form to show.

Ears. Bigger than he is.Mitch grinned at the little fox. He clicked the heating pad off, sat down next to the little guy, nudged the bowl in front of the animal, then gave him a tiny pat. “Lunch time.”

For a long moment, the fox didn’t budge, just remained pressed up against Cain.

Cain nuzzled the little canine, encouraging him.

After a quick sniff and a tiny taste, the fennec fox started eating with gusto.

“Looks like you’ve both done a good job.”

Calix’s voice sent Mitch scrambling to his feet and spinning around fast, causing the fox to whimper. Mitch soothed him with a gentle touch even as he stared at the newcomer. Calix had slipped on clothes at some point in time, covering his primed body.

Mitch found the fact to be disappointing.

“Credit Cain. He’s done all the work.” Weakness and shakiness rushed through Mitch. He braced his legs against the bed for stability.

Cain offered up his best doggie smile.
