Chapter 43

Mitch’s mind stuck on the wolf shifter who looked like a ticking bomb. “What’s up with that guy? I swear he was sizing me up as a threat to his alpha status.”

Nate smirked. “Good old Tims. He’s a loner, that’s for sure. Pretty much keeps to himself.”

“What’s his story?” Mitch asked.

“He’s been here awhile. I check on him about once a month. He lives off the land, best I can tell. Never seen him in the cafeteria or more populated sections before.”

“I thought living off the land was frowned upon?”

“He’s not poaching, if that’s what you’re worried about.” Nate’s voice took on a sharp edge.

Mitch changed gears real quick. “Why is he here now?” Mitch waved his hand. “Besides the flooding. I mean someone like him it would be the last thing in the world he’d want to do, even in times of crisis.”

“His cabin is flooded. It’s in the lower basin. Don’t even know if it’s still standing.”
