Finally, he looked up and released a long sigh of relief. He met the concerned eyes of Mitch and Cain. “Concussion, a couple of cracked ribs. Some pulled muscles and strains to a couple of ligaments in her shoulders.”

Mitch blinked. “You got all that from just touching her?”

Calix gave a quick nod. “She’ll be okay. Time. Rest. A shift or two later on.”

A shaky smile appeared on Cain’s lips. “Thank you, Calix.”

“You bet.” Calix stood up to leave.

Mitch, with his bundle of clothes in hand, met him at the door. “You’re a healer?”

Calix shook his head. “I observe and diagnose. That’s all.”

Mitch tilted his head. “But no healing powers?”

“None at all,” he answered flatly.

“That’s unfortunate.”

“Tell me about it.” Calix’s gut clenched. How many times had he cursed his limited abilities? About as many times as the sun rose in the sky.

“Still, that’s pretty amazing. Who needs fancy equipment when you’re around?” Mitch offered up a half-grin.
