Chapter 18

“Got caught in some chicken wire—” Every muscle in Felix’s body tensed. “—nothing to worry about.” Kirk took a breath. “No, not chicken wire, what’s it called? One of those grid fences.”

Grid fences?“Where? There are no grid fences in Willow Point.”

“I was…er…helping Sofia.”

“And she allowed you to walk away? Like this?” Except his clothes were clean. How could his clothes be clean when he wasn’t? There was dirt and dried blood on his bare arms but not a speck on his T-shirt.

“Perhaps you could discuss this when Felix isn’t working?” Mr. Diaz was never a warm person, but Felix hadn’t heard icicles cling to his words before.

Kirk sneered. “Of course. We’ll discuss it more at home, right babe?” Kirk kissed Felix’s forehead but his eyes were on Mr. Diaz, or Felix assumed they were, because it was damn hard to tell when he wore the sunglasses.

Mr. Diaz’s fake-looking eyes blazed and Felix had no idea what was going on, but it was clear they didn’t like each other.
