I rubbed my cheek against the top of his head, comforted by his seriousness. I’d only ever seen his energetic side and was happy to see him a little more subdued, too. I needed to know he could take things seriously if necessary.
“Yeah. I guess I feel…you’re married and…when I think of you two together, I feel…I mean, I don’t have a right to feel like that, it’s not my place to say you can’t…” I sighed. The words felt clumsy in my mouth and I didn’t know how to wrestle them into obedience. I rubbed my knuckles over my heart.
“I think I understand,” Sawyer said. “The thought of us being intimate without you bothers you, even though you don’t think you have the right to feel that way.”
“That’s exactly right,” I muttered.
Preston scratched his chin. “So maybe the first rule should be that everyone’s feelings are valid. Nothing we feel is wrong or ridiculous, and even if we don’t understand, we accept.”
“I like the sound of that.”
