“I should get going,” Drew said.
“I really appreciate you stepping in for me today.”
With a slow nod, he gave me a once-over with his huge brown eyes that would have put Bambi to shame. “You know you can talk to me, right? I always have time to listen.”
“I know. And I will. I just gotta…” I shrugged, not knowing how to explain.
“Get your head on straight.”
I flashed him a smile. “Something like that.”
“Okay then. See you in the morning.”
“Yeah.”
He squeezed my shoulder, gave my dogs scratches, and left.
I jumped aboard the boat and the dogs followed. After a quick change of clothing and after making sure the dogs’ bowls were full of food and fresh water—of course, they were—I wandered back on deck and threw myself into one of the chairs in the aft. Neptune plunked down next to me, and Greg jumped onto the second chair, where he promptly fell asleep.
