Both their faces lit up as though I was exactly the one they wanted to see.
“Hi!” Sawyer grabbed Preston’s hand, and even at this distance, I could see the squeeze he gave it.
“Out for an evening walk?”
“Something like that,” Preston said.
“Did you have the day off?” Sawyer asked. “We didn’t see you when we were here earlier.”
I borrowed Preston’s reply. “Something like that. Did you have a good day?”
Preston slid his arm around Sawyer’s waist and pulled him close. “Yes. It was…interesting,” he said after a moment’s hesitation.
I raised an eyebrow but didn’t ask what he meant, even though I was dying to.
“Are we interrupting something?” Preston asked.
“Not unless stargazing and contemplating the meaning of life counts,” I said with half a smile and a shrug.
“In that case, would you like to join us for a walk?” Preston asked.
