“You worried?” I asked and leaned in close. Preston grabbed my hips and tugged me onto his lap. I settled in and sighed happily when he kissed my forehead.
“Sure. Some.” Preston shrugged one shoulder. “Wade’ll be here in…” He glanced at the wall clock. “Fifteen minutes. And this is…first-date jitters, I guess.”
I chuckled. “Well, I’m not worried. I’m excited! It’s gonna be great.” I booped Preston on the nose. “Because he’s pretty and kind and sweet. And he likes us as much as we like him. So we’ll go to dinner and have great conversation and maybe some kisses?” I waggled my eyebrows.
Preston shook his head, but he couldn’t quite stop the smile. “I wish I had your optimism.”
The way he’d said it, something in his voice, made me go still. “Pres? Do you not…I mean, are you thinking this isn’t going to work?”
