“I know,” he said, then shook his head. Seemed like he didn’t have any more words either


“Sawyer and I haven’t talked too much about it with each other, but I, for one, don’t want that to happen. I…” Preston took a deep breath, looked me straight in the eye, then gazed at Wade. “I can’t imagine leaving and never seeing you again. I can’t imagine living my life with Sawyer without you in it. I know it’s going to take work, and we’re just getting started, the three of us, but I think it’s time to talk about how we can make this permanent.”


I pointed at Preston, doing my bubblehead impression again. “Yes. That. All of that, except with me and Preston switched. I want permanent with you.”


Wade’s brow crinkled, which worried me, but since he didn’t let go of either of us, I tried not to let my stomach crawl out of my throat. He was thinking, and I had to let him. Even though I wanted to push and prod until he explained what was going on in his head.
