Chapter 75

Instantly my ears reach the same molten temperature as the coffee. I react. I’ve just flown across the Atlantic. In addition, I drove across an unfamiliar country on the wrong side of the road, fearing a car wreck at every turn. Then, thanks to a busybody friend, I had to introduce myself to my boyfriend’s parents. Finally I arrive at this bar to see my man with another man. Or another man with my man. I don’t fucking care about the finer details.

They sit next to each other on separate barstools in front of the bar. I seat myself just behind them, near enough for them to feel my breath, cold like death that’s waiting if they don’t separate immediately. I lift a hand and tap on the stranger’s arm. I don’t care if he’s twice my size even when seated.

“Hey, buddy, how about you move away from him?”

I’m amazed how civilized I’m being, considering my first instinct was to hit his head so hard it would crash onto the bar.
