Chapter 64

“Jay, I’m going to run you a bath. Cool to begin with. We’ll gradually add hot water. We need to warm you up, but slowly. I’ll be gone a few seconds so stay awake. Okay?”

He waited for Jay’s nod, before getting up and jogging along the short hallway. He burst into the bathroom, grabbing at the door to save it from smashing back into the wall. Plug in, a turn of the taps. He tested the water, dashed into the kitchen, filled the kettle, put it on to boil, before racing back to Jay, who sat eyelids fluttering.

“You have to stay with me, sweetie.” Dean moved to pick him up.

“Sweetie?” Amusement warmed Jay’s voice and he smiled, surely a good sign.

“And so you are.” Dean slipped one arm under Jay’s legs, the other around his waist and lifted. Jay jerked away.

“Shit, you’re hot.”

“Can’t help that,” Dean said with a wink, managing to hold on, spinning them toward the door.

“I can walk, you narcissist.”
