Chapter 127

“We have to check out. I’ll help you down with your bags.”

April stood and reached for her jacket.

“If you ever want to talk…as hard as it might be, I’ll listen. Whether it’s about you, or about me and Dean…” Jay hesitated over what was at best a risky offer. “All I ask is please stop assuming what I should want. That’s what mum does with you. Don’t try to live my life for me. Supporting each other doesn’t mean telling each other what to do. And while love is all very nice, a little trust goes a long way, too. And please,” he turned to ask her, as he opened the door and picked up her case. “Please stop baiting Dean. Give him a chance, for my sake. Or if you can’t give him a chance then just leave him alone. I know you don’t get him. Not many people do.”

“And you know what makes him tick, I suppose.” She grabbed the holdall.

“Why shouldn’t I? I can pick up on his emotions. I know when he’s angry, upset, sad, nervous.”

She laughed. “Dean? Nervous? Now that I’d like to see.”
