Chapter 15

All I can think about is seeing a man transforming into a rabbit.

When I go into the house to get ready for work, a fresh pot of coffee is ready in the kitchen and my favorite cup cleaned and placed next to the machine. And lying in the bed I’d bought at the pet store last week is Mio.

When I’m showered, dressed, and ready to go, I hunch down and pet his soft fur. “Please be here when I get back.” 5

Night has fallen when I get home. I stayed late at work, thoroughly cleaning the apothecary. Not that my stand-in hadn’t done her job, but I needed time to think. And when Margot finally kicked me out and told me to “go home already,”I postponed obeying her orders by taking a walk around the neighborhood before I jumped into the car and drove home.
