Donovan frowned. “I was never ashamed to be seen with you.”
“Bullshit again. Do you even hear how ridiculous you sound? I don’t see how you can believe the words that come out of your own mouth.”
“Matt, come on. Give me a chance. I’m trying.”
“Trying to do what? Be a gay man? Fuck you, Donovan. Get out of my house and out of my life. I mean it.”
He started to say something else, but stopped when the sound of the front door being unlocked and opened distracted him. When Ryan walked in and saw us, he actually took a step back. I thought for a moment he would bolt, but he didn’t. He just stared at my ex like he’d risen from the grave or something. Donovan gave Ryan a quizzical look before turning back to me.
“Wow,” he said. “You’re dating college kids now?”
“Get out,” I told him. There was no way he was going to force me into an argument over my relationship with Ryan.
He started for the door when Ryan’s voice stopped him in his tracks.
“Donovan, wait,” he said.
