Chapter 37

The break ruined Ben’s career and his relationships, including the one with Jason. Ben became monstrous for over a year, a villain because he had loved the game of hockey and could no longer play. He became primal and vicious. A nuisance for those around him. Grumpy. Mean. And abusive. Since he couldn’t skate, he decided to use his fists on people: his hockey friends, his younger brother, close buddies, and Jason. Jason ended up with two black eyes and a broken rib. He ditched Ben; the only answer to his physical pain.

Once Ben lost pretty much everything and everyone in his life, he reached a turning point and realized he’d never get back on the ice. He attempted to repair his relationships with those close around him. His hockey buddies forgave him, as well as his little brother. Some of those relationships thrived. The one with Jason didn’t. Life turned sour sometimes. In this case, it did. Jason wanted nothing to do with the guy.
