Chapter 8

He ordered a drink as a test of hearing to see if he could understand what the bartender said over the loud music. That successfully accomplished, he said to the man, who was now standing next to him, “They sure are young, aren’t they?”

Without even turning to look at him, never taking his eyes off the gyrating bodies on the dance floor, the man answered, “Yeah, that’s pretty much who comes here, and the ones who like them.”

Okay, then, thought Dean, nice to meet you, too.In disgust, he walked back out to the deck. After admiring the view for a few more minutes, he left, went back to his room, and took a nap.

The next morning, at breakfast, Dean again had some difficulty finding a place to sit. There were virtually no seats left, even in front of the TV where he had eaten yesterday. There was one seat left at a table where four guys in their thirties were having an animated conversation. One of them noticed that Dean was looking for a seat and motioned him over.
