Chapter 24

“The traffic’s not too bad. We’ll be at my place soon.”

“So what’s your house like?”

Dean laughed. “I don’t have a house. That would cost about a quarter of a million dollars in Westchester County. I just have an apartment.”

“Yeah, real estate is really expensive in Boston, too. I only have a house because I inherited it from my folks when they died. I can’t even imagine what it’s worth. I should have it appraised some time.”

They passed the bridge and soon crossed the Harlem River into the Bronx, the Manhattan skyline growing smaller and smaller in the distance behind them.

“How often do you go into the city, since you don’t work there, I mean?”

“Maybe four or five times a year, to see shows, occasionally an opera. Normally just for one day. If I’m lucky, I can be home before midnight after an evening show.”

“It’s cool that you are close enough to the city to do that. Do you ever take the train?”
