“So, why aren’t you lifting weights right now?” I asked. “Going for cardio, instead?”

“Truth?”

We were at the cemetery gate already, thanks to my quickness. Having worked up quite a sweat, I worried about any dampness on my shirt and jacket, dampness Preston might want to point out, like he had with Archie. “I prefer truth in most cases.” We turned to head for Dawn’s.

“I haven’t gone in yet…to the gym. I was kind of…scared…nervous…I don’t know. I guess I lacked the confidence to just walk into a strange place all by myself, being the new guy in town and everything.”

“You?” I rolled my eyes.
