Dawn attributed her quite thin physique to sampling everything she cooked but never sitting down with a full plate. She moved quickly around the red and light wood dining room and even faster in the kitchen, where she currently put together a delicious burger. Stacked hand high on a light blue dinner plate, its bun was toasted, topped with a greasy, brown circle that could maybe still moo, then lettuce, tomato, bacon, onions, and other condiments. Man, had I’d missed that burger.

Like the steps at the post office, the corner booth offered a great panoramic view inside the restaurant and out the window to the side. I took that seat, leaving Preston to face the restrooms.
