“Two more days and with luck the doc will tell you that you can start doing all the stuff we keep telling you not to,” Russ replied with a grin.

“He’d better. I’m terminally frustrated.”

“Because Kelly won’t let you do stakeouts or set up security?” Russ asked with obviously feigned innocence.

“She gave me her okay—” Jake rolled his eyes, “—for the stakeout I was scheduled to do on Friday. I told you that. Of course she lectured me first. You’d think she was my mother, not my business partner.”

“She cares about you, the same way I do.”

Jake snorted. “I doubt that, since she’s happily married.”

“You know what I meant.”

“Yep, and you know what Imeant. Sleeping next to you every night without anything happening sucks.”
