Chapter 14

Beck could only nod, gaze transfixed on the man before him. He realized he was staring and forced a grin. “Sounds great.”

Jordan gestured to the tractor. “She’s all set.”

Taking the out that was offered, Beck gave a thumbs up like an idiot, climbed into the cab, and drove the windrower out of the garage.

He hadto get Jordan out of his head.6

Driving the windrower had always been Beck’s favorite job. There was something soothing about arranging the fallen hazelnuts into long, ordered rows. But after four days of continuous driving, Beck was more than glad to be done. He felt like his entire body was rattling. It had been much smoother since Jordan worked his magic, but nothing about the tractor was an easy ride. Everything was a bump and a rattle as the huge tires rolled over the ground—not to mention the diesel engine vibrations, which Beck felt in his bones long after he climbed down.
