“But your family?”

“Nicky wondered about the same thing. They have their own lives and can get along without me. Do me a favor, though. If you see them, tell them I love and miss them, but I’m fine and happy.”

“You are, aren’t you?” Hank gripped my arm, then turned to Nick. “Make sure you take care of him.”

“I will.”

“Ed?”

“I’m going.”

“What about the elder?”

He shrugged. “She’s nice enough, and so are the people, but I’m with Hank. I want to go home.”

Nick opened his mouth, and I almost could hear him saying, “But there’s no one waiting for you back then,” but before I could nudge him to keep quiet, he folded his lips together and shrugged. “Suit yourself.”

“I’ll be back, though.” Hank turned to me. “I promise. As soon as I get Carolyn and Hal and Ginny, I’ll be back.”

“Just don’t meet yourself coming and going,” I advised.

“The time paradox? I’ll be careful.”
