Chapter 49

A little after four there was a rap on Mark and Frank’s dormitory room door. Frank opened it. Jim and a sneering Dennis walked in.

“I guess we’re here to discuss terms of surrender,” Dennis said. He looked around the room. “God, I forgot what a dump this dorm is.”

Jim laughed.

“So, what do you want?” Frank asked.

“You break off with Bill and we won’t say a word. Or let this picture mysteriously appear in The Daily.” Dennis pulled out his phone and showed Frank a picture of the graffiti they’d sprayed, involving Bill. “But if you don’t, I’ll make sure the finger is pointed at you.”

“And just how will you do that?”

“When the cops start their investigation, we’ll come forward and say we have proof it was you. The cops will come and question you. Once Bill finds out you were responsible for his missing out on a pro career, he’ll be devastated. I’ll be there to console him.”

“And just how do you intend to implicate me?”
