Chapter 50

“Yeah, I got a couple of ideas, but I don’t want to say which ones yet. I don’t want to jinx it.”

Frank was tempted to come out right then and say that no matter where Bill was drafted, it was the end of their relationship. But he couldn’t do it, not just before the combine, and not until he knew for sure what Bill’s thoughts on their future together were. He still hoped Bill would say they had to end it. Frank didn’t want to be the one to do it. It would be easier on Bill if he came to that conclusion on his own.

Frank knew Bill had moved on from talking about the combine. He’d begun running his fingers lightly up and down Frank’s back, and kissing the top of Frank’s head, which lay in its usual place atop Bill’s chest. Frank was just as willing to move on. Discussion of the NFL and what lay ahead was increasingly depressing.
