Her grin was huge. “Come on. Let’s go. I’ve spent enough of your money.”

The ride home was quiet. Josie fell asleep about three minutes in. I knew the outing would be too much for her. I should have insisted we wait. But at least I was taking her home now and she could sleep restfully.

But without her chatter, my brain went back to Zack and everything Josie had said. Even though I was resolved to letting Zack go when I went back home, I couldn’t help contemplating if a long-distance relationship might, indeed, be possible. I knew I had connected with Zack in a way I had never connected with another man before. I knew I liked his company, that I could listen to him talk for hours, that he made my body sing when he touched me. I knew, without a doubt, if we lived in the same city, we’d be building a solid relationship. But with an entire continent between us, there was no way we could make it work.
