Chapter 24

“I missed you,” he said fervently, his eyes shining. He clenched his hand in my polo. “I wasn’t sure if you wanted me to come, but Josie said—”

“She was right,” I interrupted. I rubbed a thumb on his lightly stubbled cheek. “I’m so happy to see you. But I have to ask, why did you come?”

His answer was immediate and without hesitation. “Because I love you.”

I gaped like a fish.

Zack just laughed and let go of my shirt, trailing his fingers along my arm until he could grip my hand. He kissed it, then lowered it to his side, not letting go. He turned slightly, then gave me a gentle tug toward baggage claim. “Come on. Let’s get my bag and go home. We have a lot to talk about.”

Still stunned by his proclamation, and not knowing how to respond, I had no choice but to follow along.
