Chapter 25

“Never mind.”

He reached for his glass. “It was entertaining,” he said, before draining the last of his water. “And Orson Wells gave an astounding performance. So did Dietrich. She was exceptional in this movie.” He sat back and cocked a brow. “Does that sweeten my critique?”

I grabbed a handful of popcorn and stuffed in my mouth, then chewed very loudly, smiling boyishly at him.

“All right,” he said, “I see the lure of the genre. It’s dramatic, violent without being graphic and full of sexual tension.”

“Sounds like my last boyfriend,” I joked.

Lei enjoyed that. His eyes lit up and he shook his head at me. “You have a wisecrack for everything, don’t you?”

“Sorry,” I sputtered, setting the bowl down on the table. “It can be annoying, I’m sure.”

“No, absolutely not. It’s nice.”

We stared at each other, just a moment, but his intense gaze set my heart racing and my hopes high.

Of course Lei looked away, reaching for his empty glass.
