Chapter 29

Lou returned and slipped into her seat across the table. The second I saw that dark hair, the familiar Knight nose, I was reminded of her brother and my nerves starting dancing under my skin. I had to face it. Lei was in my system, and I was slowly, but steadily getting hooked.

She too, had had a rough past few days—obviously—and there were shadows under her eyes. “I’m gonna get going, okay? ‘Cause my mother needs to catch up on some work and I’m gonna give her hand with that.”

Lorraine had spent the last two days getting Lei through a bad stretch.

“Lou…again, I’m so sorry for the damage I caused.” I closed my laptop. “I feel terrible and stupid.”
