“Doug, listen to me,” I heard Lei say, somewhere behind me, “you have to help me get out of this hell I’m in.”

Elated, maybe a little fearful, but full of hope, too, I opened the front door and stepped out. As I walked away, I glanced back at Lei’s home. People kept passing it, walking right by his door, unaware that on the other side, a spectacular man was trying to gather the shattered pieces of his life…Act 2

I put my phone down on the table. “Okay, let’s see what happens.”

“Nash is coming?” Lou asked, raising a thin brow.

“Yeah, he’s on his way.” I glanced around the coffee shop. It was unusually quiet this evening, and Nathaniel, now the definitely not-so-newbarista, was doing his best not to fall asleep behind the counter. It was time to wake him up. Time for him to meet my very cute and very single friend.

“But you didn’t even tell him you were trying to set him up.” Lou picked at her lemon and poppy seed muffin. With a tense expression, she checked her phone again.
