“The minute the door shuts.”
“Leave the door open. It’s summer.”
That sounded reasonable, except for letting all the AC cooled air out. “We could try that,” I told her.
“What else?”
“I feel like I just need…a, uh, work buddy? Two of us?”
“I’ll come,” Goose suggested right away.
“I’d love that,” I told him, “but I’m not sure you would. I’m not certain it’s our best solution.”
“What about a partner? Keep Scott around.” He took my hand.
“Maybe. Financially…that could be tricky, in terms of keeping the pharmacy in the black. Adding extra employees…I have considered selling to a chain and running the place myself, myself and someone else. That could work, maybe.”
“Hmm.” Goose knew whenever I did think about that, I always talked myself out of it. “What about an emotional support dog?” he asked excitedly. “You could take Wilbur to work.”
Goose’s smile, once again, was contagious. “That’s a possibility. Can you sleep without him?”
