“What?” I asked.
“Payment of medical bills.”
Eighty percent coverage seemed like a lot, until bills for services went into the tens of thousands. Then, suddenly, the remaining twenty percent really added up.
“You think people would go for that?” I flopped onto the bed, where our checkers game would take place.
“The people closest to us? For sure. They know. We have two whole houses worth of stuff, this house and mine, furnishings, appliances, sheets and towels…We don’t need any more. Fifty dollars here, a hundred there off the balance we owe will really help us out.”
“Let’s do it. We’ll put it right on the invitations, like fancy people do.”
“What about invitations?” Goose asked. “Since we’re going Halloweeny, I think we should really go Halloweeny.”
I wrapped my arms around him and pulled him down to join me. “You’re a Halloweeny.”
“Ha!” When Goose barked, so did Wilbur. “Shh.”
“We can make all the noise we want. I have no neighbors. Ow-oohhhh!”
