“I have my wicked moments.” Buck took a couple more bites of his meal before asking, “Did you celebrate the Fourth when you were a kid?”
Mika nodded. “Sometimes we’d go into town to watch the fireworks, especially when we were younger. It was a big deal and we made the most of it, eating at the diner, first.”
“I have a question. You lived off the land so where did the money come from when you had to buy things?”
“The butcher in town would buy venison, rabbits, and quail from Dad. He didn’t make much, but it was enough.”
“Okay. I guess that works.”
“It did.”
When they finished supper, Mika went to get the scrapbooks. As Buck looked through them he asked, “Do you know who the other people are in some of the photos?”
