Chapter 35

“Good question. Okay, you tell him the boxes are in the bedroom closet, and he’s welcome to go through them. Leave the bedroom door partly open and I’ll hide behind it.”

“It already is,” Mika pointed out. “So I bring him in and you jump him?”

“Yep. If there’s one thing I know from being a bouncer it’s how to subdue someone, even if they’re ready for me to try. He won’t be because he won’t know I’m there.”

Mika pushed his plate aside. “Suddenly I’m not the least bit hungry.”

“It’s going to be okay,” Buck told him. “We’ll…” He was interrupted by a loud, rapid beeping noise. “Damn, that’s a fire alarm.”

Jumping to his feet, Mika headed to the door only to have Buck grab his arm.

“We should get out of here,” Mika protested, trying to pull free.
