Brandon hesitated. The temptation was there, but he knew how far it would get him. “He didn’t even tell me he was unhappy. You don’t understand. He was still saying ‘I love you’ every night on the phone. Nothing changed. It was just—bam.” He snapped his fingers. “I came home from that trip and my whole world was gone. No. I wouldn’t take him back even if he said he wanted to come.”
Greg looked like he’d had the wind knocked out of him. “Seriously?”
“Seriously. After that? I don’t think I’d ever trust him again. Not without at least bolting down the TV. He didn’t want me. He wanted someone who looked like me and otherwise fit into some kind of mold that only he knew.” Had Adrian liked anything about him? “I love him, but I wouldn’t take him back.”
Now it was Greg’s turn to bite his lip. “But you guys always seemed to be made for each other! I guess I was always hoping that you two would just…be it, you know?”
