Chapter 19

This wasn’t a courtroom, though. He was trying to show respect for his friends and their families by looking his best. He didn’t care about looking appealing or “sexy” or anything like that—God, no. There wasn’t likely to be anyone new at this shindig, and if anyone from their group of friends had wanted to date each other, they’d have done so a long time ago.

He thought back to that conversation up on the roof two weeks ago. He’d just been imagining the way that Greg’s hand had lingered. Sure, Greg had said nice things to him. That had been great. But they were friends: they said nice things to each other. They brought each other comfort. That was what friends were for, once all of the urges to congregate in clumps and make bad decisions collectively got out of the system. Brandon had imagined any lingering touches, he knew, because he wasn’t Greg’s type and he hadn’t anything to offer. He couldn’t afford to let his brain go there, so it wouldn’t.
