Chapter 57

Donnie sighed out again. “So unfair.”

“Well, maybe you shouldn’t have written that nasty sex letter!” Liliana screamed.

“Nasty? It was a love letter. There’s nothing nasty about it. And the other stuff was just for practice since I can’t do any of it in real life.” Then Donnie blushed and moved in his chair. “Dad had no right to go through my things.”

“Okay, we’re not getting anywhere,” I said.

“I wish I could stay here.” Donnie looked over at his mother with a serious expression. He wasn’t kidding. “I could stay with Chris for a few months, work at the café, and then I’d apply to a school as an exchange student in New York or something.”

Liliana gave me a long suppliant look.

I rose and leaned my hands on the chair’s back. “If you two don’t mind, I have a really bad headache and need to get some rest.” I walked away to the sink and poured myself a glass of water. That was the best I could do.

“Come on, Donnie, let’s go. I’ll get you some ice cream on the way home.”
