Chapter 80

“Do you see her?” Tucker asked excitedly.

“No. The wind…The storm…” There had been a rather strong gust. “I still hate them,” Chad admitted, just as the power went out.

Security lights had been on all over the park, even though it was daylight, then suddenly, they weren’t. Chad tensed, or maybe he stood up big, like a bear. “I’m surprised they stayed on this long,” Tucker commented.

“There’s a generator…right?”

Tucker knew poor Chad could use a reassuring hand, like the one he had offered in hallway of the high school during the tornado. Too bad he didn’t have one to offer. “Did you, uh, see anyone else, Chad?”

Chad didn’t answer.

“Hey.” He said it gently. “Come on, Chad. I need your help. We’re in this together.”

“Huh?”

“Did you see anyone else on the grounds? Is it possible someone else could be walking around here and I just didn’t notice?”

“I…I don’t think so,” Chad said.

“Someone opened that door. You didn’t bring an accomplice, did you?”
