Chapter 89

“I’m stronger than I look.” Tucker followed.

“What about the hand?”

It was still discolored and deformed, a couple of the fingers useless nubs. “There was a fire.”

“Not what I asked.”

“I have another one.” Tucker held it up.

“You’ll be doing a little bit of everything, including tending to Daisy.”

“Daisy?”

Reynolds started across the dead grass. He took awfully large steps. In order to keep up, even as big as he was, Tucker took almost twice as many. “Our main attraction,” Reynolds said.

“So I got the job?”

“Not up to me.”

“You’re not the owner?”

“Animal trainer. Get the dog.”

“Oh.” Even as Tucker wondered if Reynolds was going to train Laddie, or maybe hire him as an act, he did as told. “Your name was on the ad.” They followed him to a transport trailer. Quinn opened the trailer door and ushered Laddie inside.

“‘Cause you’ll be working with me. It’s better for him in there.”
