Tucker got the back of Quinn’s hand for the suggestion, there in the center tent, while Daisy looked on. The shock of it hurt more than the sting. Tucker left out that part of the story.

“Who’s going to feed us with no money coming in? Who’s going to put a roof over our head, kid?”

Tucker scuffed his shoe in the dirt at their feet, as if a child again. “Sorry.”

“Me, too, kid.” Quinn took Tucker’s sore cheek gently in his huge hand. He kissed his forehead. “It’s stress, ya know?”
