“It’s a part of you,” Chad said. He took Tucker’s arm and put it back behind him. “And it helps. Just like it always did.”

“They’re pretty technologically-advanced, believe or not. My physical therapist was impressed. She said had dad patented the idea, he’d be…I’d be…Someday, maybe I’ll look into doing that. Someday, maybe I’ll get something more advanced. They’re doing things, making strides. For now, this works. So why change it?”

“I’m glad you’re okay. I’m sorry about Quinn.”

“Me, too.” Tucker wiped a tear with his claw. “I’ve been here almost five years. I’ve been alone almost five years. You, Roy, John, and Quinn. That’s my list.”

“Maybe that’s why Daisy’s sad.”

“Huh?”

“Maybe she’s sad because you’re all alone.”

“I’m not,” Tucker said defiantly. “I talk to the animals and sometimes, I pretend—no, I swear—they talk back to me.”
