Chapter 25

Cameron snorted. “She told a lot of stories,” he said after a second. “She told stories about all kinds of monsters and things that were supposedly all around and waiting to gobble up little kids that didn’t obey their mothers and submit to punishment. I think I figured out when I was maybe nine that it was just an excuse, that she was making it all up to keep us in line.”

Reid nodded slowly over his coffee. “So it’s possible that she was into something shady. Or it’s possible that she was just making things up.”

Cameron looked at Jason and tried to remember some of Catherine’s stranger threats. “You’re a werewolf. Are you all that interested in flossing your teeth with the guts of children who move when they’re told not to?”

Jason jumped, face contorted in horror. “No, I like the cinnamon scented dental floss just fine.”

“Then I think it’s safe to say that she was just making things up.” Cameron sipped his coffee.
