Chapter 51

He peered into the pit. The vaulted tops of three human skulls were unmistakable.

He checked Jason’s pulse. The handsome werewolf was still alive, if barely. Cameron stood up and looked around to see if he could see any sign of the creatures that had mauled Jason, but of course they were invisible. He waited for a moment to see if anything would present itself, and then he lifted Jason into his arms.

Lifting Jason was a lot harder than it looked on television. Jason was a hundred and eighty pounds of dead weight, and while Cameron knew that he was strong, he wasn’t this strong. His back and legs screamed as he hefted Jason off the ground and into his arms. If he needed to fight, he’d be out of luck. He’d just have to get Jason back to the house as quickly as he could and hope for the best.

Not that the house was any guarantee of safety, he thought with a repressed shudder.
