“Look,” he said, his eyes apologizing even if his words did not. “We’ve got another big deal going down right now and I’m a little nervous. We lost that big shipment last night and it feels like I’m walking on land mines. I’ve got to meet these men in Bradford’s office and I need you there. I need to stop here and talk to Jim for just a minute, then we have some other pressing business we have to take care of.”
Cam had never seen him this roiled up.
“Why exactly are we here? What should I be on the lookout for?”
“I’m not sure. I just hate this place. It gives me the creeps. Watch out for anything…I don’t know…just be on guard. That’s what I pay you for.”
“Okay.” Cam sighed in acquiescence.
Nick opened a large oak and glass door and walked into the enormous offices of Caprianni, Sherman, and Bradford, Attorneys at Law, one of the best-known law firms in the city.
“May I help you?” the receptionist greeted them.
