“We didn’t know the boat was going to blow up!” His voice was escalating, too.
“And you didn’t know it wasn’t.”
“And she hadn’t reported in for three days. How were we supposed to know where she’d be?”
They both sat there, stewing over their conversation. It took a few minutes before either of them spoke again.
“I apologize, Doctor,” Deems sighed, not knowing why he felt it necessary to apologize to one of his controls. “I just didn’t warn her.” He didn’t have an excuse.
Maggie sat with her eyes down, trying to get herself under control. It wasn’t like her to yell at someone, berate a fellow professional. Why was she getting carried away with this? Yes, Cam knew that there would be risks in her job, but she also knew there would be one person she could trust. If Maggie was going to be that one person, at least give her the information necessary to do her job.
