Chapter 12

“This is really, really good,” I said after swallowing a bite. Joshua’s cheeks turned pink, but he smiled and reached out to squeeze my hand.

We made small talk as we ate our dinner. He told me about his day, and the new employees he had hired. They were both college students, but their class schedules allowed for them to fill in the weak spots in Joshua’s schedule. He was pleased, and thought they would work out well. I, in turn, talked about my day, though I left out the part about Caroline encouraging me to leave so I could get laid. It just seemed like something that would embarrass Joshua. It was so nice, though, just to have a quiet dinner and talk about the mundane stuff in our lives. I could really get used to it.

But the fact this was our Third Date was constantly in the back of my mind. I was trying to be patient, I really was, but I wanted to know about his rule. And if I was honest, it was wreaking havoc with my concentration. I hadto know.
